I believe IGG Software has a free trial for Banktivity for the Mac.You could download it, duplicate your current data file and import it, and then try out the latest versions for both iPhone and Mac.

If you have a Mac, you can use OFX or web downloads for free directly from institutions, then use the free syncing service to propogate the downloaded data to iOS devices. Downloading transactions to an iPhone or iPad directly requires the Direct Acces subscription. Syncing between devices requires the free cloud service.

Really, the iPhone app doesn't let you do much more than entering transactions and viewing information. The app itself is pretty rudimentary, three primary functions: accounts, budget, investment holdings. I'd suggest downloading the iPhone app and setting up a dummy account to get a feel for it. The other day I wanted to know the exact date I bought my last set of tires for my car while considering buying new ones at a store. The other use I have is to look up the details on purchases. I use the iPhone app, primarily to enter and track split transactions on the go, like spending cash from an ATM or recording the breakdown of purchases from a Walmart or Target store.

Jade, would you be willing to try out the iPhone app and post your experience? I'm still running v5, but considering the $30 upgrade to 6 to get access to the free iPhone app and sync, but I'd like to know if it's actually good before taking the plunge. I'm sure there will be a flurry of one-star rage reviews in the App Store complaining about the cost, but I think it's a worthy upgrade just for UI speed increase and faster transaction syncing. I budget without enveloping, so no opinion there.Tags work a lot like subcategories, in my opinion, but they are there for those who want them.Since I converted my accounts, my budget was alredy set up, but budget setup shouldn't have past QA like this. In this example that would be the person being paid the paycheck and the amount they are being paid instead of the various taxed amounts. As an example, if you a split transaction like a paycheck and have taxes budgeted, in the budget setup you will only see the top line amount in the list of expenses. Budgeting setup is improved, but still needs work. The user interface feels noticeably faster.Presumably, this is a security feature, but since all my accounts are imported I'm not seeing the benefit. Sync settings aren't imported, which I find odd since I have to type in ID and passwords.Converting more than a decade of data from the previous version takes seconds.Three new features are highlighted: tags, variable budgeting, envelopes.I'm running it on the latest 12-inch iPad Pro. The new release of Banktivity for iPad is available in the App Store for $19.99, as well as the iPhone app for free. If you have a $1000 budget for Gifts, and don't spend most of it all year, in December it still only think you should spend $83, even though you were under budget the rest of the year.ĪND WHY WON'T THEY ALPHABETIZE TAG LISTS? I also don't like how if you set a yearly budget for something, month-to-month it only ever accounts for ÷ 12. The budget I currently have going is not envelope, and it only factors in expenses so, as best I can tell, in a given month if I were to budget $1000, but spend $1500, and also win $1,000,000, it would still think I went over budget? I only really care about net, so that's not really helping me very much. I have tried both envelope and non-envelope, and they're both weird. As others have said, the way they do it makes very little sense. But…I figured since they have budgeting in there I'd give it a shot, if only to affirm my mental math. My finances are pretty simple, and I can budget well enough in my head for savings to hit my goals. I switched to Banktivity ~6 months ago, and didn't have much interest in budgeting.
